Literature Analysis: A work in progress

“I’ve Got You Under My Skin”- Mary Higgins Clark

  • The plot of the novel was that there was a killer on the run, that killed a little kids father and before he shot his dad he told him “ your mom is next then it’s you”. After so many years they were afraid that the man with “blue eyes” would come and hurt them. While that was happening the little kids named Timmy’s mother was making a show on another mystery crime. They interviewed four girls that were in the Gala and the house keeper, that were at the scene of the murder, and were trying to solve anyone’s motives towards the crime.
  • The theme of the novel was crime because there was two murders involved throuout the whole story, eveyone was trying to solve the crimes. It was also mysterious because many people seemed to be at the Gala the night of the crime but, nobody seemed to have a specific reason on why they killed the lady (Betsy). However, the four girls seem to have a good life and the investigators didn’t have any specific evidence on who killed the lady. Also for the other crime the only thing anyone knew was that he had “blue eyes”.
  • The tone I receive from Mary Higgins Clark was that she wanted us the readers to think the four girls were involved in the crime. She described each of the girls and the house keepers issues towards the victim Betsy. She gave us descriptions on why each one might have killed her the night of the Gala.
  • My observation towards the literature of this book was the allusions that author made of each character that might have killed Betsy and how. The foreshadowing seemed to appear each time “blue eyes” appeared in the story and his motives of killing Timmy’s family.Diction was used on the suspects that where at the Gala the night when Betsy was killed. Imagery towards the distribution of the night of the murder and what had happened that night, gave a clear image of might had happened that night. The sense of tone towards the author was to make us believe all the people at the Gala were involved in the murder of Betsy. “Nina Craig once told a reporter every one of them was accused of having been part of a plan of Betsy...”(chapter. 15).“They had agreed to come here to try to finally clear themselves from being under suspicion in Betsy’s death, but each of the tapes revealed a motive for them to have killed Betsy”(chapter 27). “I did hate her. I’ve tried to get over it, but I can’t. I still hate her. It was unfair,” Alison said passionately” (chapter 52). “
  • What drew me towards this book what the title and they it’s theme was mystery and crime. These types of books are fascinating to me. What I expected from this book was to have a very interesting ending from who committed the crime and why.
  • What kept me reading past the ten pages was what I wanted to know who the “blue eyes” man was and why the killed Timmy’s father. I also wanted to know more about the Betsy case and who might have been involved in the murder.
  • My reading habits are okay. At first I don't really pay attention to the book. So I have to reread everything to understand what everything it’s about.

I also read when I’m asked to, however other than that I don’t read for fun. Although, I know it’s improtant to read I feel like I have to do other things than to sit down in complete silence and pick up a book to read it.

BNW chapter 8 ideas

1. Bernard asked John to explain “everything”  about his life since the beginning 2. Since Linda comes from the World State she is used to being in multiple relationships with many men all in one time. The effect that this issue brings to the Reservation is that people that are from the Reservation don’t live their life’s the same way as in the World State, they actually respect people’s relationship. John learns all about this when he is able to read. 3. Popé brings Linda mescal. 4. John hates Popé. John stabs Popé when he was sleeping with Linda. Popé just laughs and tells him to leave. 5. Shakespeare allusion in this chapter comes from the “The Complete World of William Shakespeare”  John enjoyed reading it because he feels like it describes the way his life is / feels. It showed him the true relationship between Linda and Popé, it inspired John to “kill” Popé. 6. The experience that caused John to feel alone was when the boys beat him up and left him outside the Puebl...
