Some people think research is boring because they have to do it for a class, and it’s usually about something that’s not interesting. But today I did research and it was awesome. Here’s how I did it. I first thought about an interesting question and that’s when I came up with the topic about “what causes sleep paralysis”. I have heard different people experience similar experiences when it comes to having sleep paralysis, but I thought to myself what caused it and why. So that’s when I reached it up, I used my phone, used safari, and google. Then I typed “what causes sleep paralysis” and I clicked on the livescience.com website. The website provided different categories on causes, symptoms, and treatment. I felt like this website was reliable because the website itself seemed professional, and so believe that sleep paralysis has to do with science. The cause of sleep paralysis is due to rapid eye movement known as REM. REM causes the brain into having vivid dreams, while the muscles of the body are turned off. While the person is sleeping the muscles are unable to move and the person is unable to act out their dreams with their own body. Sleep paralysis then takes place if or when the person wakes up before the REM is over. This then causes the person to be conscious, but their body’s ability to move won’t occur immediately. The symptoms of sleep paralysis is when the person is unable to move their body or unable to speak. This “can last one to two minutes, according to the Mayo Clinic.” Also people feel a certain weight on their chest or even a feeling of being choked.
The only things I read when I’m at home are the post I see on social media since I’m more on my phone that any other thing. I also read when I’m asked to, however other than that I don’t read for fun. Although, I know it’s improtant to read I feel like I have to do other things than to sit down in complete silence and pick up a book to read it.
