Essay “On Self-Reliance”

Many people in our world seem to follow the “trend” instead of doing what they actually want to do. In the essay “On Self-Reliance” by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he gives great examples and reasons on why we should all be ourselves. The title itself gives many meaning and also the tone is pretty clear throughout the essay. Emerson makes his statements clear by the diction and syntax being used. Emerson’s essay will help me in my personal life, because this essay has made me view things differently.        The title “On Self-Reliance” wrapt the whole essay into a few words, which gives the main idea. The tone of this essay is being yourself and that you shouldn’t rely on others. “To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men, -that is genius” (par. 1). This is an example of his tone because the quote shows that you should believe in your own thoughts, ...

What I learned today about self-reliance

What I learned today about the essay written by Emerson was that we all have our own ways of thinking, but we never actually take action. Usually a song is created which takes our way of thinking and we never take credit for it. In paragraph 4, it talks about children, babies and even brutes that they are clear of what they want and what they are thinking of. They don’t have a purpose to lie about something like older people do. People should be able to express their own opinions even if others don’t agree with them. Also people do charities to seem “nice” but they aren’t actually like that.

Today’s Emerson Reading

Words I didn’t know:   transcendent- beyond of something or being above average benefactors- someone who gives more to someone or a cause prattle- a childish/foolish talk disdain- someone or something being unworthy of another persons respect neutrality- someone opposing to peoples disagreements or agreements What I read and understood was that you need to be yourself no matter what, especially when you are in the highest point in life, that is when you need to stick with yourself. You should always accept where your at in life and take advantage of it to make good choices. Children are more open minded about what they want to do or say. They do this since they haven’t been judged by society on what they should say or be like. But, as time goes on that starts to change.

Today’s Emerson Reading

What I understood from the reading is that eveyone has something special talents and people wouldn’t find them if they don’t express themselves. You should also follow what catches your eyes so your able to succeed. Put effort into your work so at the end of everything it will be worth it. You are able to become whatever you want, but you also need to make the world a better place.

Today’s Emerson Reading

What I understood from the reading today what that because we always hear the voice in our head we don’t care for it and we ignore it, when it knows what we want to say and we should follow it. We rather listen to what others say instead of what we truly want to do or say. What makes great thinkers great it that they always listen to what the voice in their head says and they follow it, by expressing themselves. We should all express our feeling and respect them because it is apart of who we are.

Literature Analysis #2

Book: “Nick’s Mission” by Claire H. Blatchford - The plot of the novel is that the main character Nick couldn’t hear and has trouble speaking properly. He had a mission to cross over the lake and take pictures of the other side. However, when he landed he discovered a house and he went inside. When he opened a room he saw three scarlet macaws that seemed dead and a man that was tied up. Nick couldn’t hear what the man was saying so he went running towards his boat and went back to land, to ask for help. - The novels theme was mystery due to the fact that scarlet macaws were found in a place where they shouldn’t be at. It was also a mission because Nick was the one who discovered the birds and the man when he was just taking pictures for an article being written. - The tone of the author was that she wanted us to see how anyone can make a difference in the world. No matter what disabilities someone might have they can help the world, without even knowing it and it can affect anyone. ...

Same words different people

While discussing the vocabulary terms with a friend I learned other ways to view some of vocabulary . For the word blog my friend said it meant, a documentary of information posted on a blog or a channel showing descriptions towards someone or something.  Another one was the word viral, that it can also be a document not just only a picture nor a video.

Letter to a mentor : draft 1

Dear Jeff Bezos,     I want to learn about how you can create a business and have success over it. I want to create a business that can become important and successful some day, but what steps do I need to take to succeed later in the future? Since you are an officer of Amazon, how do you maintain the ability for people to continue purchasing things and to have happy customers all the time, or if not what do you do? What steps did you take to become part of a great shopping site like Amazon and to become an important person for that company?                                            Sincerely,                                                    Mari Lopez
